Roxborough Arts Council's gallery, Rox Arts — in Unit 330 at Aspen Grove, 7301 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton — which lately has been open for limited hours, expands those hours and offers a wide assortment of art and crafts for sale by members that will decorate walls and shelves in readers' homes and/or serve as gifts for loved ones who have a birthday, graduation or wedding in the future.

And, member artists will teach you techniques for painting your own works, if that is a wish.

Open hours presently listed: Thursday to Saturday: noon to 7 p.m.; Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

These long stay-at-home periods have reportedly stirred that creative ambition in a number of restless people across the nation.

And certainly anyone who has been a “creative” will concur about the satisfaction that can come while working with color on paper or canvas, or forming shapes from clay, wood or metals — and the wish for exhibit space.

As well as the social aspects of talking with like-minded souls — perhaps the biggest plus of all!

Versatile artist Maryann Leake, a longtime Rox Arts member, offers classes called “Paint a Masterpiece” that allow one to replicate Monet's famous works, such as “End of Summer,” plus Van Gogh's “Sunflowers,” “Basket and Oranges,” “Irises,” “Wheat Field With Cypresses” and more ($52 each, all supplies provided).

And of course, one will gain an understanding of those distinctive Impressionist brush strokes that are so strong, if that is a wish. Classes started Aug. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will continue into the autumn. See website or visit the gallery for a schedule.

Beginners and teens are welcome.

Member Brian Hubbell will lead a class through creation of “Big Wave” on Aug. 20 and 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. ($85 covers classes and supplies, including brushes, paint and canvas).

Or member artists/instructors will guide a person in developing and finishing an image they have thought of, which may present a challenge ... either realistic or more abstract.

Figurative work does prevail here.

Rox Arts had its beginnings some years ago with artists who live in the Roxborough Park area and organized exhibits in a space in that area. As the Aspen Grove shopping center developed and drew shoppers from across the south area, some savvy members sought to expand the artists' customer base by renting a space in the center. Success as a display space was followed fairly soon with an offering of classes.

Members each have an example of work in the gallery at all times and alternate on exhibiting an expanded collection through the year. New artists/members are welcome. See roxartscouncil.org.
