State 3A soccer: Colorado Academy outlasts Bluedevils

LITTLETON -- Kyle Reddy experienced two batches of feelings after his Fort Lupton High School soccer team lost in the opening round of the state 3A soccer playoffs.

He was proud of his team that advanced to the game against top-seeded Colorado Academy. He was equally as proud of how well the Bluedevils played. But CA’s Nico Watters scored the goal off a corner kick in the 71st minute to win the game 1-0 and to end the Bluedevils’ season.

“We lacked concentration, and they were able to slip on past us,” the first-year coach of the Bluedevils said. “We could have had that team -- the way we battled all year, the way we battled ourselves with grades. After the Aurora Central game (a 4-2 home field win against the then-No. 7-rated Trojans in class 5A), the boys were flying high.”

We'll have more in the April 28 issue of the Fort Lupton Press.
