“Witness,” a painting by Patricia Aaron of Greenwood Village, hangs in Metro State University's gallery, Center for Visual Arts, at 965 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, in a new exhibit called “The Walls Between Us.” The exhibit is a collection of works by the artist collective Artnauts. The exhibition explores “walls, whether emotional barriers, physical structures, implied boundaries or heavily guarded barriers ...” according to a statement from CVA. The collective focuses on social justice. The exhibit runs through Oct. 17. Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday: noon to 5 p.m. Admission: free. 303-294-5207, www.msudenver.edu/cva. Free parking by entrance or on the street nearby.

Virtual quilt show

In normal summers, Littleton celebrates the summer, and part of that celebration is a beautiful quilt show at First Presbyterian Church, where church members share quilts: some crafted by the exhibiter and others passed down in families, from a mother, grandmother or aunt, perhaps. And then there are some, like those shown by the show's organizer, Jennie Staritzky, which belong in her personal collection. “This year's show is online, produced by Pastor Cody Sandahl,” Staritzky writes. “Access through the church website: littletonpresbyterian.org/quilt. There are two formats: a 5 minute video with music, or you can click through at your own pace and enjoy the fascinating tidbits the owners have shared about their quilt's history.”

`Vibrant Bounty'

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, there will be a family program on crafting that will tour the Chinese exhibit at the Littleton Museum with exhibit-related child-friendly crafts. Visit facebook.com/LittletonMuseum/videos to see a video with Littleton Museum Curator of Collections Jenny Hankinson and Curator of Exhibits Moira Casey as they guide you through some exhibit-related, kid-friendly crafts.

Denver Art Museum

With a future exhibit in mind, Denver Art Museum announces “Each/Other”, a collaboration between two leading Indigenous contemporary artists: Marie Watt (Seneca, Scottish, German) and Cannupa Hanska Luger (Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara, Lakota and European), whose practices both focus on collaborative art-making. The exhibit will include 24 mixed-media sculptures, wall hangings and large-scale installation works. In addition, there will be a “new artist-guided community artwork.” Watch for more news about this — perhaps readers can be involved? The museum will send a video invitation. To be exhibited May 21 to Aug. 22, 2021.

Littleton Garden Club

Members of the long-running Littleton Garden Club have decided to cancel meetings through 2020. If there's to be a January 2021 meeting, we will hope to publish a notice. This local group hopes members will create gardening videos to share and seeks new computer-savvy members — and any others interested. See littletongardenclub.org. The group maintains a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/littletongarden.club. (It may be a long winter!)

Littleton author

David Weiden of Littleton announces publication of a debut novel: “Winter Counts,” a “literary thriller set on the Rosebud Indian Reservation,” he writes. He is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, he writes. (Will hope to read and review soon — publication date is Aug. 25.)

Highlands Ranch history

Mark Stevenson of the Highlands Ranch Historical Society met with Gary Debus, original Highlands Ranch manager to record an oral history. Look for it on the website, thehrhs.org, where the society's other videos are available ...

DMNS
