Limited spots are still available for the 2021 cohort of Youth United University.

Youth United University (Y.U.U.) is a “learning curriculum designed for students in grades 6 to 8 that equips them with an understanding of the vast diversity the world holds.” The “mission is to cultivate a spirit of anti-racism, systemic change and activism,” states Y.U.U.’s website.

The 2021 2021 cohort takes place July 6 through Aug. 3. The workshops will take place virtually every Tuesday from 3:30-5 p.m.

“Y.U.U. provides students with an age-based curriculum that provides education about race-based topics, creating space for students to build a sense of self awareness, practice what they’ve learned and provide a toolkit for students to take action,” states a news release.

Facilitators are Lana Hailemariam, a Denver resident who is a Gallup Certified Clifton Strengths Coach and Certified Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner; Michael Acuna, a local artist who “utilizes creativity to engage restorative justice, social equality and mental health through poetry, music and creative workshop,” states the website; and Shalelia Dillard, a Denver native and educator. They will answer the youths’ questions about “ethnicity, race and what's happening in the world right now,” states the Y.U.U. website.
