Highlands Ranch families have a new seasonal to-do item after Cherry Hills Community Church added a drive-through light experience to their Christmas celebration.

From Nov. 24 to Dec. 22, the free outdoor light display and accompanying story will play from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the church.

The drive-through show will feature programmed light displays, carolers, hot chocolate and a 105-foot Christmas tree.

As families drive through, they will hear the story of a boy and his father’s Christmas traditions, spokeswoman Amanda Thomas said.

“It’s a really fun story,” she said. “A lot of people can relate to it.”

The story will be told through a phone app that drivers can download and connect to their car stereo. The show itself lasts about 15 minutes.

“We really just felt like we wanted to do an outreach, do something for the community,” Thomas said.

Thomas recommends reserving a spot online to ensure there isn’t a traffic jam at the event, she said. Reservations can be made at chcc.org/light.

There will also be a manger scene and information about the church’s Christmas services.

All nine services will be the same, including Christmas music and worship, Thomas said.

While the light show is free, the church will be accepting donations for their program aiming to help homeless or impoverished families in Douglas County.

The family-friendly event will be closed during nights when there are Christmas services at the church.
