BREAKING: Fire breaks out at Highland View Court in Highlands Ranch

South Metro Fire is on scene

Posted

Sirens sounded like they were coming from every direction as multiple firetrucks and ambulances drove towards a large fire on the hill east of Rock Canyon High School.

With many people watching from the Rock Canyon parking lot, the  orange flames grew brighter and thick black smoke went up in the air.

Just before 7 p.m. South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a barn fire on Highlands View Court. in unincorporated Douglas County, according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter

According to the social media post, no injuries were reported at 7:04 p.m. Members of the community have been responding to the post with photos of the large fire.

The fire looked like it was mostly contained by 7:25 p.m. as the bright orange was no longer visible and white smoke was ascending.

Around 8:30 p.m., South Metro Fire provided another update via social media, saying firefighters are continuing to extinguish hot spots.

"This could be an extensive operation due to hay, vehicles and other machinery located inside the barn," the post said.

South Metro reported that fire crews rescued five miniature horses inside the barn, and they have been safely relocated.

Adding extra complications, South Metro Fire reported that there are no hydrants in the area, requiring crews to bring water to the incident scene to supply needed water to hose lines.
