We’re smack dab in the middle of the dog days of summer, so I thought it was time to take another peak at the range of events available to stay cool, literally or metaphorically.

Northglenn launches first public art exhibit

Northglenn Arts unveiled the installation of the Creative Inspirations gallery exhibit, the city’s inaugural public art exhibit. Northglenn partnered with Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (CHAC), an inclusive community of all creatives that are dedicated to preserving, showcasing, educating, and reflecting the essence of Chicana/o/x, Latina/o/x and other multicultural/multiracial communities.

According to provided information, the exhibit explores what inspires artists to create. Participating artists include Dolly De Leon, Tony Ankele, Loretta Galla, Fred Jurado, James Pyott, Shantel Lucero, Rebecca Romero and Georgia Mucilli.

The free exhibit can be viewed during regular box office hours and when the Parsons Theatre is open for evening shows and events through Sept. 23. The gallery is located inside the Northglenn Recreation Center, 1 E. Memorial Parkway. Learn more at https://northglennarts.org/.

It’s all happening at Sunset Cinema

Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous” is one of the most rewatchable films of this century — the kind of story that never fails to delight, no matter how familiar you are with it. And it’s getting a special screening as part of Denver Film and Denver Arts & Venue’s free Sunset Cinema series.

The screening will be held at the Galleria at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1400 Curtis St. in Denver, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26. DazzleJazz is curating the pre-show entertainment and Ryan Dykstra Records will be on site with a mobile record shop.

If you somehow haven’t seen “Almost Famous,” the semi-autobiographical film tells the story of William Miller, an aspiring rock journalist who gets hired by Rolling Stone magazine to write a piece about up-and-coming band Stillwater. It’s as much a story about growing up as it is an ode to the world of classic rock.

Clarke’s Concert of the Week — The Lumineers at Coors Field

Coors Field is just flat out a great place to spend a summer night. Just being there is enough of a highlight, but throw in one of the biggest Colorado-based bands and you have a true banner evening in your future.

The Lumineers will be playing the stadium, 2001 Blake St. in Denver, at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 22. The group is touring in support of their 2022 album, “BRIGHTSIDE.” And they’ll be joined by some special guests — Gregory Alan Isakov and Daniel Rodriguez. All these performers have deep ties to the state, so it should be a special performance.

Fashion forward by looking back

There’s still plenty of summer left to make an impression with your style choices — that’s where the newly launched Helen Elizabeth Vintage and its pop-up show enters the picture.

The pop-up will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at 3295 Blake St., Suite 104 in Denver. This one-time event is highlighting its summer collection, which is (according to provided information), “a curated selection of clothing and accessories are available for purchase, including womxn’s dresses, skirts, tops, bathing suits, jewelry, hats and purses from decades spanning the 1930s to the 1990s.”

Celebrate baseball — the way it used to be

Baseball has held down its spot as “America’s pastime” since the late 19^th century, and Lakewood is giving fans of the game a chance to experience how the game was played in the days of yesteryear. Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park is hosting a Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association (CVBBA) base ball game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at the park, 801 S. Yarrow St.

The players will be wearing vintage uniforms, there will be snacks and a classic good time will be had by all. If you want to get in on the fun, you can register to take on the Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association. Participation is open for ages 16 and older and vintage costumes are encouraged.
