A former Denver Broncos player who was arrested in May in Douglas County has pleaded not guilty to four felonies and four misdemeanors related to the incident.

Cody Latimer, 28, who was on the Washington Football Team until he was cut in August, called into his virtual arraignment in Douglas County on Oct. 30.

His trial is set to take place from March 15-17 of next year. 

The charges against Latimer — including second-degree assault, menacing and tampering with evidence — stem from a physical altercation that began after a friend of Latimer’s hosted a poker party at the Zenith Meridian Apartments near Lone Tree, according to testimony in earlier hearings.

Deputies responded to the apartment complex on May 15 at about midnight after hearing reports of arguing and shots fired. Once on the scene, deputies learned that Latimer and his friend got into an argument after a man at the party was seen sitting “uncomfortably close” to Latimer’s son.

The defense and prosecution have provided conflicting versions of what happened inside the apartment, with the prosecution painting Latimer as the aggressor and the defense arguing that the former NFL player was actually a victim.

When asked about pre-trial motions in the case, Latimer’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said he will require three hours to get through his materials. Judge Patricia Herron responded by asking if the motions would really require that much time.

“We have some major issues of misconduct in this case, so yeah,” Steinberg said.

A request for additional comment from Steinberg on the allegations of misconduct in the case was not immediately answered.

Latimer, a wide receiver, was a second-round draft choice by the Broncos in 2014 and was on the Denver team that won the Super Bowl in February 2016.
