Good Day Sunshine,” a loving remembrance about the Beatles, presented on May 1 at Su Teatro in Denver, brought a happy conclusion to the 2021-22 season for the Stories on Stage organization, which brings in professional actors to read short works of literature to an audience of theatre lovers.

Based in Boulder, the group started in June 2000 with a performance at the Acoma Theatre in Denver and has, at times, fine-tuned with programs on a particular topic, plus adding a bilingual theatre program for elementary school students, “Cuentame un Cuentito/Tell Me a Story.” It also offers Lo-Dough pricing — name your own ticket price for those who need it.

They announced the 2022-2023 season for subscribers and may have a local author to present in addition. Single tickets cost $25 and audience members are invited to become a benefactor and sponsor a particular actor for the season at $750 or a specific story for $500 if possible. In “Good Day Sunshine,” GerRee Hinshaw, Sam Gregory, Allison Watrous and musical director Matt Bassano (keyboards) performed separately and together, with stories/talks about the songs and composers, individual vocalizations and, on a couple of occasions, invitations to sing along ...

Hinshaw started with “Yesterday” by Ann Hood and “She Loves You”... Sam Gregory followed with “Dear Prudence” by David Duchovny and Allison Watrous performed “Octopus’s Garden,” followed by an enthusiastic group (audience included) rendition of the favorite “Yellow Submarine.”

Sound hokey? It was fun and after a second set, the happy audience wandered into the sunshine again, comparing notes ... on favorite songs or when and where they might have seen the actual Fab Four ...

Stories on Stage will begin again in the fall and season tickets are on sale now. Performances will again be at Su Teatro, 727 Santa Fe Drive, on Sunday afternoons and several will be presented also at Nomad Theatre in Boulder. The popular annual holiday performance will again be at the King Center on the Auraria Campus.

The new season starts with “Banned Books in Boston!” and concludes with “The Wedding Singer’s Lament,” hit songs of the 1980s and 1990s ...
