Dressing your pet up in an adorable costume is always something to look forward to come October 31, but it can also be an unnerving time for your pet. Here are some tips to follow to ensure your pet has a spook-free Halloween.

Dress up your pet in a costume only if your pet enjoys dressing up. Forcing your pet into a costume they don’t necessarily like can lead to distress, or destruction of the costume.

It is also important to make sure your pets are safe while trick-or-treaters are ringing your doorbell. The best way to do this is to provide a haven for your pet if trick-or-treaters or other Halloween noises bother your them. Providing your pet with their own space will make them feel in control and safe.

We all know dogs love to stick their snouts into the pillowcase full of candy. Make sure to keep the candy at a place that is out of your pet’s reach. There is a chemical in chocolate that is toxic to dogs. If your dog gets into any amount of chocolate, make sure to go to the vet as soon as possible.

Don’t forget October is National Animal Safety and Protection Month so make sure to keep your pets happy and healthy!
