Lizzy Zerr, a senior defender for Cherry Creek High School's girls lacrosse team, is already looking forward to playing next season at the University of California-Davis.
All spring sports in Colorado have been suspended until at least April 30 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m pretty much just focusing towards college,” said Zerr. “I’m still doing some stick work, working out and definitely trying to take it as a rest period. I do some running and our high school coaches are giving us workouts to do and that keeps us busy.
“This is the most time I’ve been in my house in possibly two years. For someone who is always on the move, it is so difficult to be in the house all day. It is definitely a big change. It’s so hard. Our prom got canceled. I’m upset but I’m more upset for my teammates that aren’t going to get a chance to play in college. This was their last chance to play lacrosse.”
COACH’S TAKE:
`Lizzy is an incredibly hard-working student athlete. She puts her energy and commitment equally into academics and athletics. She has been tasked with some of the more important defensive roles during her time at Creek and has always taken it in stride. Lizzy has a knack for coming up with the big `spark’ plays, creating turnovers when we need them the most.’

Cherry Creek girls lacrosse coach
Q&A with Zerr
What is the hardest thing about missing your senior season?
It is definitely not being able to spend my last season with my team and teammates because those are my best friends. You look forward to your senior year. It’s hard to get that taken away from you.
What is your favorite sports team?
The Denver Broncos. I was lucky enough that my dad had season tickets and I’ve been going since I was 5 years old. Watching them play makes me so excited to go play my sport. It just gives me so much energy.
What was it like to have your cousin, Bailey, as Creek’s head coach?
I would go to all of her games at Cherry Creek when I was in elementary school. I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to be like her. Most people on the team didn’t know we were cousins but the minute we step on the field we’re really not like family. She is my coach and I do what she says.
What type of music do you enjoy listening to?
I really like a range. I’m really a fan of country but then I could also go to rap.
