An 18-year-old boy was fatally shot outside his home in east Centennial near East Smoky Hill Road and South Picadilly Street the night of May 8, according to a news release by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.The victim was a student at Cherokee Trail High School, and investigators determined the shooting is not “school related,” the release said. Deborah Sherman, sheriff's office spokeswoman, did not elaborate on what "school related" meant, citing that the case is under investigation.It occurred in the 21500 block of East Powers Lane at about 9:30 p.m., the release said. The victim was taken to an area hospital and died from his injuries. Sherman did not say what is believed to have led to the shooting.Investigators arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the incident, the sheriff's office announced on Twitter May 10.
No other information was released, with the sheriff's office citing that the suspect is a juvenile.
